DivMagic alternative: the free option, and what you give up

Verbatim is the free alternative: a Chrome extension that copies the CSS which actually applied to an element by resolving the cascade, plus twelve other tools, with no account and no subscription. DivMagic is a paid product with a broader design workflow around it. If you want copying and extraction, the free option covers it. If you want the wider workflow, theirs is built for that.

Where this comes from

We make Verbatim, so read this the way you would read any comparison written by one of the two parties. What we have done to make it useful anyway: every fact about DivMagic is quoted from their own site with the date it was read, nothing is claimed about how their product works internally because we have not read their code, and the section below says plainly when theirs is the better choice.

What DivMagic is good at

Breadth. DivMagic is building a workflow rather than a single extraction, with its own studio product around the extension. If copying a design is the first step in a longer process you intend to keep inside one tool, that is a real argument and a free extension does not replace it.

When DivMagic is the better choice

When Verbatim is

The actual difference, in one paragraph

Most tools in this category read getComputedStyle and present the result. That is a correct answer to a different question, because computation happens after the cascade resolves, and five things have already gone by then: the hover and focus states, the media queries, the @layer order that decided which rule won, the custom property names behind the values, and the fact that a shorthand was authored as a shorthand. Verbatim reads the rules instead, matched against the element and sorted the way the browser sorts them. The full explanation is here, with the specification references.

Questions

Is there a free DivMagic alternative?

Yes. The Verbatim Chrome extension is free forever with no account and no plan, and it covers copying CSS, components, Tailwind, design tokens, fonts, colours, assets, measurement and screenshots. The only paid part is an optional MCP server for coding agents, which is a separate download and a one time purchase.

How much does DivMagic cost?

Lifetime 345 USD list, discounted to 200 USD at the time of writing. Also 16 USD a month, or 96 USD a year. Checked on 16 September 2026 on divmagic.com, and prices change, so confirm on their site before deciding.

What does Verbatim do that is actually different?

It resolves the cascade rather than reading the computed result. That is why the hover and focus rules, the media queries, the @layer order and the custom property names survive the copy, and why the output can be rebuilt rather than only read. It also renders the extraction back in an isolated frame and compares it with the live element, so a wrong copy is visible before you paste it.

Can I use both?

Yes, and plenty of people will. They are browser extensions and they do not conflict. If DivMagic already does what you need, the honest answer is to keep using it and add this only if the gaps above are gaps you actually have.

Does Verbatim work on pages behind a login?

Yes. It runs in your own browser in your own session on the page you are already looking at, so a dashboard, a checkout or an admin panel reads exactly like a public page.
