Cropped to your selection when there is one, or the viewport when there is not. The toolbar takes itself out of the frame and waits for the browser to repaint before the shutter, so it is never in the picture.

How to use it

Press Alt+Shift+P.
Optionally pick an element to crop to.
Press S.

What it will not do

It captures what is on screen. For a full-page image, scroll and take more than one, or use the page save instead.
Chrome does not allow a capture of some internal pages, and it says so rather than saving a blank one.
