How Verbatim does it
The element moves by transform: translate() rather than by changing its position or its margins. A transform is applied after layout, so nothing around it reflows, nothing else on the page shifts to compensate, and removing the transform restores the original position exactly rather than approximately.
How to use it
- Press Alt+Shift+P, then V.
- Drag any element.
- Press Z to undo, or Esc to restore everything.
What it will not do
- Because it moves by transform, an element cannot be reflowed into a different place in the document. It is for trying a position, not for editing a layout.
Compared with editing position or margin in DevTools
Changing margin or position in a panel moves the element and reflows everything around it, so the layout you are judging is no longer the layout you started with. Putting it back means remembering the original value exactly.
Moving by transform: translate() happens after layout. Nothing around it reflows, nothing shifts to compensate, and removing the transform restores the original position exactly rather than approximately.

Questions about Move elements
Does moving an element push everything else around?
No. It moves by transform, which is applied after layout, so the surrounding elements stay exactly where they were. That is what makes it useful for judging an arrangement.
How do I put it back?
Press Z, which removes the transform and restores the original position exactly. Several moves undo one at a time in reverse order.
Can I move an element into a different container?
No, and that is deliberate. It moves visually rather than structurally, which is what keeps the restore exact. Restructuring belongs in code.
Is the move saved?
No. It lives in your own copy of the page and a reload restores everything.
What is the shortcut?
V, once the toolbar is open with Alt+Shift+P. Z undoes.
